Description
An abandoned auto-oriented department store in an older, dense neighborhood has been replaced with a neighborhood mixed-use center. This new anchor for the neighborhood includes 43 affordable housing units along with small first floor commercial spaces.
Care has been taken to separate the defense-able resident spaces from the commercial areas. The majority of parking for the residents is provided through private driveways. All of the residences are provided with individual entrances and most have their own decks, all within an urban setting.
The Front Street project was the award winner for Smart Growth Rhode Island Case Study, the Citizen’s Bank “Housing Hero Award”, and the award for “Urban Revitalization” from the State Council of Financing Agencies.
